Middle Tennessee State University, founded on September 11, 1911, is a public university located in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. It was founded as one of the three state normal schools for teacher training.

Academics:
Middle Tennessee was founded on its education program, and it remains one of the highest-enrolled programs at the university. Nursing and Agriscience, also staples among Tennessee universities, were also a large part of the school's early identity and continue to be strong programs today. In recent years, Middle Tennessee has received national recognition for its newer programs, including Aerospace, Journalism, Broadcasting, and Recording Industry.


Athletics:
Middle Tennessee has won 11 individual and team national championships with most coming in Track & Field and Tennis. The Lady Raider basketball and volleyball teams have recently garnered national attention.

Rivalries:
Middle Tennessee's biggest rivals are Western Kentucky in basketball and Troy in football. Historically, Tennessee Tech has been a rival of Middle Tennessee.
